Kosorić, V., Lau, S.K., Tablada, A., & Lau, S.Y. (2018). General model of photovoltaic (PV) integration. Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1364032118301825

Annotated Summary:

In this article, Kosorić, Lau, Tablada, and Lau (2018) showcase a general model of photovoltaic (PV) integration applied onto a 12 storey HDB slab block in Clementi, Singapore. A clear analysis of its challenges and benefits were also evaluated. This model of integration allows early detection of potential problems which aids in proper planning. It also assists in evaluating and optimizing PV integration into the buildings to get the best results. In addition, the safety of PV systems is ensured by mandating a license whenever necessary. This model further confirms the importance of techno-economic and the functional-aesthetic aspect of a PV integrated building. The article highlighted that the optimal solution to a PV integrated building does not require conflicting aesthetics and energy performances. To perceive a unified PV integration solution, the challenge of selecting aesthetic yet functional technology must be seamless.

The article provides useful information for our research project on retrofitting reverse solar panels to generate 24/7 renewable energy for existing residential buildings in Singapore. The research in the article has proven that renewable energy is imperative for the reduction of carbon emission levels, which substantiates our effort to retrofit reverse solar panels. The various limiting factors to alternative energy generation methods were also presented, which further highlights the significance of our research project. The fact that the rooftop area represents 25% of the total building footprint area shows great potential not just for the PV integration, but for our reverse solar panels as well.

  1. Dear Rue Hong,

Thank your for writing on the research of incorporating reverse solar panels into the rooftops of existing residential buildings in Singapore. It is interesting on how Singapore has done a PV panel prototype in Clementi. The information that you provided in this summary would greatly improve our technical report.

Good job on the annotated summary.

    Best Regards,
    Shimin
